Florida was throwing bombs into the end zone and running their offense NO DIFFERENTLY than they did in the 1st half. I was at that frickin' game. They most definitely did not put it in cruise control. Hellfar, we had the ball at mid-field with about 10 ticks left in the game, and came extremely close to hitting a big one. NO WAY Spurrier played it out like that. He put as many points on us as he possibly could whenever he could. Remember the 62-37 game? He threw it in the end zone with less than a minute to go in that game, in a downpour, when the game was long decided. They blitzed, they threw the ball, they played like it was 0-0. We on the other hand, didn't play like we had a corn cob stuck up our ass like usual, actually played to score, and we did, and we almost won. Have a nice day!

When you consider that Hitler marched all the way to Moscow destroying everything in site and was stopped by the harsh Russian winter I would say Russia had a whole lot of help in beating Germany. Help form us and the weather or they too would have had a German flag flying over the capital.

They ran the ball more than 40 times, including a clock-crunching second half that saw them convert four fourth downs . . . all on running plays. And finally, Spurrier admitted after the game that he took the air out of the ball --- and said he should not have done that.

Like a football team playing in the snow, BOTH teams have to play in it. The team that cannot handle it will lose. Yes, Russia had help in beating Germany. But they also made some smart decisions, and their resourcefulness forced the engagement to last into the winter. Hitler did not "destroy everything in sight" en route to Moscow. Russia allowed much of Germany's advance and did much of the destroying themselves . . . so Germany would have no supplies waiting for them. They arrived at a place and already found it burned and stripped . . . so they had to depend on their ever-growing supply line, which was terribly problematic. And America had lots of help, too . . . since they never faced more than 25 percent of Germany's forces. And they always had help from other nations on the Western front. One of their first plays from scrimmage in the 2nd half was a pass into the end zone. Check out their wins against us in any year and you will see they rush the ball more than they pass it. They hardly passed it in the 1st half as most of their points came off our turnovers. We fumbled and bumbled the ball around inside our own 40 yd line almost the entire 1st half and they took advantage of it. We didn't do much fumbling and bumbling in the 2nd half, and what would you expect Spurrier to say (if he actually said it), when his team blew a 35 point lead and almost lost the game at the end? Like I said, if you can find the game watch it and you'll see for yourself how much their offense differed in each half. But I can already tell you: NADA. Have a nice day!

I don't know how you can possibly say otherwise Talley. What Hitler should have done was stock up on the supplies his Army needed at every stop, regroup, and move on. He didn't do that and his Army starved to death and was horribly equipped. He could have easily stockpiled everything he needed and waited out the Winter and Moscow would have crumbled with or without our help. Have a nice day!

Now you think I'm insulting the WWII troops just because I want to give the lion's share of the credit for defeating Germany where it belongs: To the nation that fought along an 1,800-mile front against 75% of Germany' forces. I wish, just once, you would come up with a different rationale for insulting the troops. Like sending them to fight in wars of choice. Like sending them to fight without proper armor. Like treating them in roach-infested, mold-infested hospital rooms upon their return. Like trying to prevent them from being diaglosed with PSTD because it costs so much to treat. Like trying to take back their bonus check if they get wounded in Iraq and have to come back to USA before finishing their scheduled tour.

I say you are insulting the troops because you say that comparing our conflict in Iraq with our efforts in WWII would be an insult to the greatest generation. I have no doubt that those soldiers were great and had balls of steel. I feel equally as strongly about our soldiers today....in fact MORE strongly as they are a completely volunteer force fighting somewhere that isn't nearly as popular a cause...and they are doing a hell of a job regardless. The greatest generation weren't the politicians and leaders....FDR was a weinie....the greatest generation was the men and women who strapped on their helmets and went off to fight for their country....came home and raised a family, worked their asses off and drove our country into the prosperity it experienced in the fifties and sixties...they did the right thing, regardless of whether it was popular or not. To say our troops today don't measure up, is an insult to our troops....plain and simple.....
